Celebrate Pregnancy Bracelet
Description:
Just a celebration of normal (non surgical) birth. The WHO states that a 15% Cesarean rate is acceptable,
The USA averages over 30%. The birth depicted in this piece is getting harder and harder to come by.

Ring of Fire

Description:
nude pregnant woman profile, purple lotus flower, and newborn infant in hands.
The lotus flower
symbolizes the "opening up" that takes place during giving birth. Birth is not a science, but an art. A birthing woman's body
blooms like a flower to bring forth a child. The title is named after the "ring of fire" that many women feel as their baby
enters the world.
Green watercolor background with an orange ring of "fire" bringing the elements of the painting
together.

A baby is lifted into life from the waters of the universe. His/Her sweet hand reaches up into the air.
The mother and babe are viewed from above. Mama with wet glistening hair floating in the swirling pools of starlight. This
image is inspired by my second daughter's home water birth. I attempt to capture a piece of the magic of that day. I hope
all you water birth Mama's love it.

Labour

Description:
This is my first official painting! It is a portrait of a woman in labour. My aim was to capture the surrealness
of bringing forth a child. The background is simple and cradling. The woman drifts off to her own special place. A place where
millions of women have gone before her. There is no need for doctors, monitors, medication, and flourescent lights. Here,
birth is simple, surreal, private, and beautiful.

Description:
The full moon illuminates a laboring mother as she surrenders to the power of her own nature. Her full belly
glows. Her hands offer up and receive. She is now able to claim her power and bring forth the life within. I painted this
piece to celebrate the often overlooked beauty of a woman in all her power, doing what only she can do. I hope to inspire
others to believe in their ability to give birth naturally.

Description:
A beautiful birthing mother throws her head back with joy. Her baby arrives with the same joy. The two emanate
swirls of life energy in an infinity/figure 8 pattern. A full harvest moon rises behind her while golden wheat and hands raising
in praise give her wings. She floats above a reflective pool with sweet fish swimming below. This painting was originally
a simple pencil sketch that was commissioned by a lovely group of ladies in Richmond. They used the image in the program for
their public viewing of the Documentary Film "The Business of Being Born" by Abby Epstein and Ricki Lake. After the show
I decided to give her some color, turning her into a 8x10 water color. The image and title were inspired by the poem "Being
Born Is Important" by Carl Sandburg which begins: "Being born is important You who have stood at the bedposts and
seen a mother on her high harvest day, the day of the most golden of harvest moons for her."...
